Boyd Sugiki Glass Artist

Boyd Sugiki was first introduced to glass in 1986 at Punahou High School in Honolulu, HI, and studied under the guidance of Hugh Jenkins. He went on to receive a BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts and a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design.

His work combines innovative glass blowing techniques with a modern approach to design. Sugiki creates sculptural and functional blown glass objects as well as two-dimensional works in paper. His functional works are finely crafted decorative objects that he hopes people will take pleasure in using. The sculptural work is inspired by architecture he has seen during his travels. Sugiki’s most recent body of work is reminiscent of buildings or structures, and their groupings represent modern urban landscapes.

Sugiki has taught glass blowing courses through out the United States and abroad. He is honored to have had the opportunity to teach in Turkey, Japan, Korea, Canada and the United States. He finds teaching to be very gratifying, appreciates meeting so many interesting people, and enjoys experiencing different cultures.
